About the Designer

Nicole Mann Novick, the line’s creator, has always had an eye for fashion. Nicole, a writer and style editor who divides her time between New York and Los Angeles, covers the style industry for top national fashion and lifestyle publications. As the Style Writer for Los Angeles Magazine she made a name for herself in Hollywood after moving from New York City, offering her chic secrets on where to go, what to do, and how to get it in L.A., and was a frequently featured guest on NBC, CBS, and KTLA.  She now lends her keen style sense to the Garland Collection’s exquisite and timeless fine jewelry pieces.

Garland Collection’s beginning:

Nicole’s foray into jewelry design was both a natural progression and an unexpected, but welcome venture. As a style writer and editor, a career that grew out of a lifelong love of fashion, Nicole has always sought out new and unusual items. If she cannot find something to fit a particular vision, she has always created it herself. For her 2006 New York City wedding, she developed a personal insignia for her wedding invitation, placing her initials with her husband’s in an antique garland border. As is usually the case with Nicole, that stunning and sentimental monogram transformed into a whole new vision – for her one year anniversary, a classic, vintage-inspired, gold plate, engraved with the crest that she created, became a necklace for her to wear, always reminding her of that special day.

What was intended as something different for herself transformed into a conversation piece. Nicole was constantly approached by both fashion and magazine industry peers, and even passersby on the streets of Manhattan and Los Angeles. In late 2007, at the urging of her fashion-minded colleagues, Nicole decided to design a small collection of pieces based on her trademark necklace that has received so much attention – the Signature pendant was born and the rest is history. Garland, her grandparents/style icon’s last name, seemed apropos for the new line.

Garland Collection today:

Beginning as simply a labor of love, Garland Collection ultimately took on a life of its own as that first group of Signature Collection engraved jewelry quickly began receiving attention in national magazines, on stars like Anne Hathaway, Christina Aguilera, and Emma Stone, and on television as a “Gossip Girl” staple. While the Signature Collection will always be the cornerstone of the line, today Garland Collection has expanded considerably creating only handmade and made to order pieces, ranging from statement cocktail rings to wedding bands. Our latest division, Garland Collects, is a carefully curated selection of antique and vintage costume jewelry from the 1800’s to today.
